Sebastian Vettel: 'Pole position was within our grasp'

Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel is left to rue a missed opportunites for a possible pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel struggled to hide his frustration after a poor final lap in qualifying denied him a possible pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Having been noticeably slower than Mercedes for much of the season, Red Bull were much more competitive at the Marina Bay circuit.

However, despite having better one-lap pace on Saturday, Vettel admits that he could not put together a strong lap at the end of Q3.

He told reporters: "I'm not happy with that final lap, I was pushing a bit too hard and didn't get it all together, so I'm not entirely happy, but it is what it is now.

"I think pole could have been in our grasp. We'll hope to have a good race tomorrow, with good pit stops and a good strategy and we'll see what we can do from there. I think we have good speed, but everyone seems to have good speed here. It's a long race, so we'll see how the tyres work and what we can do."

Defending champion Vettel is currently sixth in the drivers' standings, trailing teammate Daniel Ricciardo by 60 points.
