Rory McIlroy: 'I am not motivated by FedExCup bonus'

Rory McIlroy insists that he is not motivated by a possible $10m bonus ahead of the Tour Championship.

Rory McIlroy has insisted that he is not thinking about the $10m (£6.6m) bonus that he could claim with victory at the Tour Championship this week.

The player with the most points from the FedExCup playoffs after the season-ending event will take home the bonus, and McIlroy is currently sitting 14th in the rankings.

Jason Day is over 2,000 points ahead of second-placed Jordan Spieth, but McIlroy claims that he is not motivated by money as he aims to put pressure on the players above him at East Lake GC in Atlanta.

"Luckily, that amount of money doesn't sort of mean much to me anymore," the 26-year-old told reporters.

"It will go in the bank and if I want to buy something nice, I will. I mean, like, it's nice to think that you could win $10m this week, but that's not what excites me.

"It excites me to play well and to try and win."

McIlroy has not won since the Wells Fargo Championship in May.
