Tiger Woods was left frustrated after making a disappointing start to his bid for success at the US PGA Championship at Valhalla on Thursday.
The 38-year-old, who only just managed to recover from a back injury in time to play in the competition, remained hopeful about challenging his rivals, despite opening with a three-over-par round of 74.
"It wasn't very good," Woods told members of the media. "A lot of bad shots and I never got a putt to the hole.
"I had plenty of looks to turn my round around and then post something even par, even under par. My swing was dialled in on that range out there. Unfortunately, I didn't carry it to the golf course.
"If I get under par for two rounds, that will be right in the ball game."
Woods is nine shots behind leaders Lee Westwood, Ryan Palmer and Kevin Chappell.
