Thorbjorn Olesen leads by one at Scottish Open

Defending Scottish Open champion Justin Rose trails early pacesetter Thorbjorn Olesen by three shots at the end of play on day one at Gullane.

Justin Rose has found himself three shots off the pace at the end of play on day one of the Scottish Open.

The defending champion shot a four-under-par 66 at Gullane to slip behind Thorbjorn Olesen.

Olesen's seven birdies were enough to lift him into an early lead, with Englishman Daniel Brooks closest behind on six-under.

Seven players sit level with Rose, in a chasing pack which includes Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and Graeme McDowell on four-under.

Five-time Major winner Phil Mickelson could only muster one-under-par, meanwhile, to find himself off the pace somewhat heading into the second day.
