Great Britain take a historic women's team silver at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships for their best-ever finish in the event.

Great Britain's women's artistic gymnastics team earned a slice of history in Liverpool as they took home the silver medal at the World Championships.

The team of Ondine Achampong, Jessica Gadirova, Jennifer Gadirova, Georgia-Mae Fenton and Alice Kinsella starred in front of the home crowd to post a total score of 163.363.

By finishing as runners-up, GB have posted the best-ever result for a women's team at the World Championships, having only medalled once before by taking a bronze in 2015.

Despite Kinsella counting a fall on beam, the Gadirova twins unsurprisingly pulled out all the stops on the floor exercise to ensure that GB would pip Canada (160.563) to the silver.

The USA took the world title for the sixth time in a row in the women's team event - finishing over three marks clear of GB with a total score of 166.564, with only Jade Carey present from the team that won gold in 2019.

The GB men's team will seek to replicate the women's success when they compete in their final on Wednesday, aiming for only their second medal in the event as well after taking the silver in 2015.
