Everton defender Phil Jagielka was criticised by fans on Twitter after he posted a photo of himself with England teammates Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge during Wednesday's friendly against Ecuador.

The centre-back tweeted the image of the trio sitting on the bench one minute before the Three Lions went a goal down in the eventual 2-2 draw at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

Along with the photo, Jagielka posted the message: "Pitch side with some of the lads, decent start from the boys."

According to the Daily Star, a number of fans took to the social networking website to criticise the defender, with one user tweeting: "Yeah fucking great start Phil. Pay attention instead of fucking about with your phone."

Jagielka joined Twitter earlier this week.
