David Beckham given Legend of Football Award at charity event

Former England captain David Beckham is given the Legend of Football Award at a charity event organised by HMV Football Extravaganza.

Former England captain David Beckham was honoured with the Legend of Football Award at the charitable HMV Football Extravaganza in London on Tuesday night.

The 40-year-old, who played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain in his career, picked up the award at The Grosvenor House Hotel.

The Extravaganza, which helps raise money for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins, celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Previous winners include Sir Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough, Sir Bobby Robson, Ryan Giggs, Alan Shearer, Sir Bobby Charlton, Jose Mourinho and Pele.

"I'm incredibly honoured to be receiving this award," said Beckham. "When you look at the list of the previous recipients, I feel very fortunate to be considered alongside them. More importantly the night is about recognising the fantastic work that Nordoff Robbins does, and raising funds for their vital work."

The event raised almost £7m for Nordoff Robbins.
