Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney bumped into Argentina legend Diego Maradona following his side's defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old, who was demoted to the bench for United's 2-1 defeat to the Spanish giants at Old Trafford earlier this week, headed to dinner with Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville when he saw his 'hero' Maradona, according to the Daily Mail.

Rooney posted a picture of the pair on his Facebook page along with the caption: "Got to meet one of my heroes after the game on Tuesday, the greatest player ever, Diego Maradona!"

Meanwhile, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed reports suggesting that Rooney could be sold in the summer.
