F1 ace Lewis Hamilton refused entry to Wimbledon royal box due to dress code

Formula 1 ace Lewis Hamilton is refused entry to the royal box on Centre Court at Wimbledon due to his failure to abide by the dress code.

Formula 1 ace Lewis Hamilton was refused entry to the royal box on Centre Court for the men's Wimbledon final on Sunday because he did not keep to the strict dress code.

Rules state that men are required to wear a tie, jacket and shoes in order to sit in the royal box, but Hamilton showed up wearing a shirt and hat.

The Mercedes driver was invited by the All England Club to attend the final between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who won in four sets to claim his third Wimbledon title.

However, stewards had no choice but to refuse entry to the reigning F1 world champion, who shared a photo of his visit to the ground on Instagram.

A spokesman for Hamilton told PA: "Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding dress code at Wimbledon, Lewis is very disappointed to have missed the men's final."

A number of famous faces, including actors Bradley Cooper and Benedict Cumberbatch, attended the showdown.
