Today's six-race meet at Leicester is under threat after temperatures plunged to -7 degrees celsius overnight.

Today's meeting at Leicester could still go ahead if it passes a 10.30am inspection.

Temperatures plummeted to well below freezing in the East Midlands last night but clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson was optimistic of the course's chances of being fit for racing.

He said: "We still think we have a chance. It's still minus 7C, but the frost sheets have done their job.

"We now need the sun to play its part."

The 10.30am inspection is the second of the course and it will reportedly be followed by a third if no decision is made.
