Three-time winner John Higgins has been knocked out of the UK Championship following a dramatic defeat to Mark Davis in the second round on Wednesday.
Higgins hit a maximum break of 147 at the Barbican in York, but it wasn't enough as world number 16 Davis took the contest 6-5 to set up a quarter-final encounter with Matthew Stevens.
Elsewhere, Shaun Murphy's opponent in the last eight will be Luca Brecel after the Belgian teenager staged a comeback to beat Mark King 6-4.
Mark Selby is also through thanks to his 6-4 victory over Ryan Day and he will meet Neil Robertson for a semi-final berth, courtesy of the Australian's 6-2 drubbing of Barry Hawkins.
