Francesca Halsall breaks Commonwealth Games record to reach semi-finals

England swimmer Francesca Halsall breaks the Commonwealth Games record in the women's 50m freestyle to reach the semi-finals of the event in Glasgow.

Team England's Francesca Halsall has qualified for the semi-finals of the women's 50m freestyle after breaking the Commonwealth Games record in her heat.

The 24-year-old recorded a time of 24.31 seconds to qualify fastest for the race this evening ahead of Australia's Cate Campbell, who posted a time of 24.33.

England's Amy Smith and Jess Lloyd also qualified for the semis along with Scotland's Sian Harkin and Wales's Hannah McCarthy.

Halsall has already won a silver medal at the Games as part of the women's 4x100m freestyle relay team.
