Ben Proud through to 50m freestyle semi-finals

England swimmer Ben Proud is through to the semi-finals in the 50m freestyle with the third-fastest time in the heats.

England swimmer Ben Proud has secured his place in the semi-finals of the 50m freestyle event by posting the third fastest time in this morning's heats at the Commonwealth Games.

The 19-year-old, who won gold in the 50m butterfly event earlier the games, completed the distance in 22.21 to win his heat.

Australia's Cameron McEvoy was the fastest competitor with a time of 22.04, while compatriot Matt Abood was just 0.05 behind.

The semi-final takes place this evening, while the medals will be decided tomorrow.
