Luke Greenbank wins gold in 100m backstroke

Luke Greenbank wins a gold medal for Great Britain in the men's 100m backstroke final.

Great Britain swimmer Luke Greenbank has won gold in the men's 100m backstroke final at the European Games in Baku.

The 17-year-old, who won both his heat and his semi-final, made good on his earlier statements by edging out Russia's Filipp Shopin by a 0.05 second margin.

Greenbank, who set a Games record in both of the previous stages, took gold with a time of 54.76s, with Shopin on 54.81s.

In third, Marek Ulrich of Germany took bronze with a time of 55.35s. Greenbank's compatriot Joe Hulme finished fourth, missing out on a podium finish by 0.02s.

It was Great Britain's 12th gold medal of the Games thus far.
