Finland forward Teemu Selanne has admitted that he feels sorry for the Russian players following their exit from the Sochi Winter Olympics.
Russia were tipped to win the gold medal in their home Games, but they crashed out in the quarter-finals at the hands of the Finns, who beat them 3-1 to advance to the last four of the competition.
"To be honest, I'm a little bit sad, also, for them," Selanne told reporters. "Obviously, they had a big dream to win the gold medal here, and then it doesn't work, so it's kind of disappointing in many ways, because that would be a great story.
"But again, it's proving to the hockey world that you never know."
Selanne and his teammates take on Sweden in the semi-finals on Friday.
