Great Britain's curlers thrash Japan

Great Britain record a comprehensive victory over Japan in the Olympic women's curling, ruthlessly dispatching their opponents 12-3 at the Sochi Ice Cube Curling Centre.

Great Britain have recorded a comprehensive victory over Japan in today's Olympic curling event, ruthlessly dispatching their opponents 12-3 in the women's round robin match at the Ice Cube Curling Centre in Sochi.

Eve Muirhead took advantage of a mis-hit shot by Ayumi Ogasawara to put Team GB into a 2-0 lead at the first end, but the Japanese were able to pull it back to 2-2 after a poor second end by the Brits.

Team GB made amends, however, and recorded five more points in the next four ends, while Japan only got one more point on board.

In the final end, Japan conceded five points to Muirhead's side, securing an emphatic 12-3 victory for Team GB.

The reigning world champions are now joint third in the table after three victories and two defeats, with the top four nations progressing to the semi-finals.
