American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin ready for slalom

US skier Mikaela Shiffrin says that she is ready for the women's slalom in Sochi on Friday.

American skier Mikaela Shiffrin has said that she is looking forward to competing in the women's slalom at the 2014 Winter Games.

The 18-year-old could become the youngest athlete to win the event at the Olympics if she clinches gold in Sochi on Friday.

"It takes a lot of work to get to this point," the Los Angeles Times quotes the teenager as saying.

"When it comes down to race day, and it's just that one race, and you're nervous, and you can't shake it out of your legs in time, it's different.

"It's that specific, you really have to be in the game."

Shiffrin finished fifth in the women's giant slalom on Tuesday.
