Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu has insisted that teammate Patrick Peterson is capable of stopping Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson on Sunday.
Peterson is considered one of the few cornerbacks in the NFL that is athletic and long enough to compete with Johnson's size and speed.
"That's why you pay Patrick Peterson, right?" Mathieu asked reporters.
"We definitely believe in Patrick. What he's doing the past couple weeks, he's definitely shown that he can really play at a consistent level, so I think we're happy going into the game knowing Patrick has him. Of course, we're not going to leave him by his self every play."
In the previous two meetings between the pair, Johnson has 14 catches, 237 yards and two touchdowns, although the Cardinals have won both contests.
