Buffalo Bills trade Stevie Johnson to San Francisco 49ers

The Buffalo Bills trade wide receiver Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers having chosen Sammy Watkins in the first round of the Draft last night.

The Buffalo Bills have traded wide receiver Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers in return for an unspecified pick in the 2015 Draft.

Johnson's future with the Bills came under question earlier today after Buffalo traded up five places to select Sammy Watkins with the fourth overall pick of this year's Draft.

General manager Doug Whaley had initially played down reports that Watkins's arrival would have a knock-on effect for Johnson, but the Bills have now allowed the 27-year-old to move to his hometown team.

The pick they have received in return was not disclosed by the team, although it is understood to be a conditional fourth-rounder that could become a third-rounder.

The 49ers were expected to draft a wide receiver themselves after they had lost Mario Manningham in free agency, but the acquisition of Johnson means that they can now focus on other areas.

Johnson was the leading receiver for the Bills from 2010 to 2012 but saw his figures drop in 2013 after a campaign blighted by an assortment of injuries.
