EJ Manuel cleared for Buffalo Bills return

Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel is cleared to return to action following more than a month out with a knee injury.

Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel has been cleared to return to action having fully recovered from a knee injury.

Manuel has been sidelined for over a month after suffering a sprained LCL in his right knee during the Bills' loss to the Cleveland Browns on October 3.

The Bills were forced to play third-choice quarterback Jeff Tuel in Sunday's 23-13 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs with Thad Lewis also injured, but head coach Doug Marrone insists that he would not rush Manuel straight back into the team unless he was completely ready.

"EJ has been cleared. We have to make a good decision. We have to get him out there and see how he's doing from a football movement standpoint," Marrone told reporters.

"We've had him out there throwing, which was something that we amped up quite a bit after individual sessions that he was allowed to do last week. But we'll put him out there and put him in the mix and see how he's doing. We'll obviously do that early in the week.

"We feel really good. We have to be careful though. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking 'Let's make sure he's 110%.' And not putting a player out there that can jeopardize himself."

The Bills face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday as they look to lift themselves off the bottom of the AFC East with a win.
