Cam Newton: 'Offense let Carolina Panthers down'

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton says that the team's offense let them down during their 34-27 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Cam Newton has said that the Carolina Panthers were let down by their offense last night, despite beating the Baltimore Ravens 34-27.

The NFC South side scored four touchdowns during the contest, but one came from a Ted Ginn Jr punt return, while the rest were scored by the defense.

The quarterback told the team's website: "Not acceptable. Tonight was supposed to be a challenge for us, and it was a challenge for us.

"When the defense plays like that, it just felt like we let those guys down. Those guys played lights out."

Head coach Ron Rivera added: "When you score [three] touchdowns on defense and [one] on special teams the offense doesn't get back out there. Now having said that, 3.7 yards an average offensive play is not good enough, not in this league. If we expect to win football games, we cannot accept that."

The Panthers face the Pittsburgh Steelers in their final pre-season game next weekend.
