Former Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren has claimed that he should have coached the team during his two-year stint with them.
Holmgren arrived in his new role at the Browns in December 2009 following a successful 17-year coaching career with the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks, during which time he reached three Super Bowls.
However, the 65-year-old's attempts to build another winning team in Cleveland were unsuccessful, and he admitted that former team owner Randy Lerner played a part in his decision not to coach the side himself.
"I really just should have coached the team, but [Lerner] didn't want me to. At that particular time, I wasn't ready to do it again. I thought I'd be shortchanging the organisation," Holmgren told The MMQB.com.
Holmgren won the Super Bowl in the 1996 season and boasts a 161-111 career coaching record with 12 trips to the playoffs in 17 years.
