Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy has hailed Aaron Rodgers as a "special football player" after the quarterback inspired his team to their first win of the NFL season last night.
Rodgers threw four touchdown passes without reply as the Packers raced into a 31-0 lead against the Washington Redskins before a late revival from the visitors saw the scoreline finish in a more respectable 38-20.
Rodgers posted career-best figures of 480 passing yards, a tally that also ties Matt Flynn's franchise record, and McCarthy believes that his performance lifted the overall showing of the entire team.
"You know, he spoils me. He makes it look easy," McCarthy told The AP.
"No doubt, Aaron is a special football player. He's at the point of his career where he is about making other people better, pulling everybody up."
The Packers have claimed that yesterday's match is the first time in NFL history that any team has had a 450-yard passer and a 125-yard rusher (James Starks) in the same game.
