New York Giants hand Tom Coughlin one-year extension

The New York Giants confirm that they have agreed a one-year contract extension with head coach Tom Coughlin to keep him at the club until the 2015 season.

The New York Giants have announced that they have handed head coach Tom Coughlin a one-year extension to his contract to keep him at the club until the end of the 2015 season.

The 67-year-old's deal was due to expire at the end of next season and speculation was rife over his future with the Giants, after a below-par 2013 campaign, which saw them lose their first six games of the year.

However, the Giants have decided to keep faith with Coughlin, who has admitted that he was always confident of getting a new deal.

He told the club's official website: "Well the Giants have always done that. That was always indicated to me. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it, to be honest with you.

"We've had a lot of work going on in our business and our building, as you know. So I had great confidence that it would happen, and it did."

Coughlin has guided the Giants to two Super Bowl wins in the 2007 and 2011 seasons, both over the New England Patriots.
