New York Jets' Darrelle Revis considered retirement due to serious knee injury

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis admits that he thought about retiring from the NFL after he sustained a torn ACL in the 2012 season.

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has revealed that he considered retiring from the NFL after sustaining a torn ACL in the 2012 season.

The 30-year-old was ruled out for the majority of the 2012 campaign when he suffered the injury during his previous stint with the Jets, and the cornerback has now disclosed that he required microfracture surgery to repair the problem.

Revis was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013, but struggled to find his best form before being released at the end of the season.

However, he then signed for the New England Patriots and performed at an All-Pro level to help the team win the Super Bowl before signing a lucrative deal to return to the Jets.

"I did think about retiring," Revis told Sports Illustrated. "I had never been seriously injured before, and I didn't know how to handle it."

Revis has recorded 391 tackles, two sacks and 23 interceptions in his eight-year NFL career.
