Rex Ryan: 'I'm the right man for New York Jets'

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan insists that he is still the right man for the job despite heading for a third consecutive non-winning season.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has insisted that he is still the right man for the job despite his side sitting third in the AFC East with a 6-8 record.

The Jets need to win their final two games of the campaign against the Cleveland Browns and the Miami Dolphins in order to avoid a second-straight losing season, while they are already guaranteed a third non-winning year in a row.

However, Ryan is in no doubt that he is a good enough coach to turn the Jets' fortunes around and has vowed to "bring a winner" to the team if he is given enough time by first-year general manager John Idzik.

"Of course, I believe it. No question, I believe it. There's no doubt about it," Ryan told reporters.

"Look, I'm a competent coach even though I know that will be questioned a zillion times forward and backward. That's fine, but I know I'm a good football coach. I believe in this team, I believe in this organization.

"I'm determined to bring a winner to this team, there's no question about it. I believe I'm the right guy for it. But I'm not the guy making that decision. If I was, it would be easy."

Ryan has been head coach of the Jets since 2009 and has an overall career record of 43-39.
