Geno Smith has described his first start for the New York Jets as a "learning experience".
The rookie quarterback threw three interceptions and gave away a safety during the team's overtime pre-season win over the New York Giants.
The 22-year-old told the team's website: "I don't do grades, but overall I think this is just another learning experience for me, lots of teaching tape.
"It felt good to be out there with my teammates competing once again, and it was a great job, a good team win.
"I felt pretty comfortable, felt relaxed sitting back there in the pocket. Other than those mistakes, which I put entirely on myself, I felt pretty relaxed out there."
Smith is competing with Mark Sanchez to be the team's starter for the 2013 season.
