Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has revealed that Richard Sherman may not require surgery on his injured elbow.
The 63-year-old confirmed speculation that the cornerback played through the Super Bowl with a serious elbow injury he sustained in the NFC championship game.
A report suggested that Sherman required Tommy John surgery to amend the problem, which could require a lengthy recovery time.
However, in an interview with ESPN, Carroll admitted that he "might have been misled" people over reports that Sherman needed the operation.
He added: "He's not a pitcher, and he's not a left-hander. Sherm might not have to have that kind of surgery. If he was a thrower he would."
Sherman was named an All-Pro for the third time in his career in the 2014 season.
