Brandon Browner is to be suspended by the NFL for one year after violating the league's substance abuse policy, according to a report.

The Seattle Seahawks cornerback denied on Monday that he was facing an eight-game ban for breaking a performance-enhancing drugs ruling.

However, according to NFL Media reporters Albert Breer and Michael Silver, Browner's Seahawks career is virtually over, with the 29-year-old out of contract at the end of the year.

Breer wrote on Twitter: "Brandon Browner's suspension, initially reported by colleague @MikeSilver, is indeed for a year. And he's appealing."

Silver then added on his own page: "I regret that the original report indicated that the Browner suspension was for a performance-enhancing substance. It has been corrected.

"If you're a Seahawks fan, the important thing to know is this: The team is moving on without Browner. Their mindset is that Browner, whose contract expires after the season, has played his last game in a Seattle uniform."

Browner also missed the final four matches of last season for violating a drug policy and he is currently recovering from a groin injury.

The Seahawks have almost secured their playoff spot with a 10-1 record in the NFC West so far.
