Bruce Allen: 'Robert Griffin III ahead of schedule'

Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen reveals that Robert Griffin III is ahead of schedule in his recovery from injury.

Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen has revealed that quarterback Robert Griffin III is ahead of schedule in his recovery from injury.

Griffin has repeatedly claimed that he is ready to return from the serious knee injury that he suffered last season, but coach Mike Shanahan has remained strict and only allowed the quarterback to participate in full training for the first time earlier this week.

Shanahan is hopeful that the 23-year-old will be able to play in the opening match of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 9, but Allen admitted that he is not sure whether that will be possible.

"He is ahead of schedule, he gets his work in," Allen told ESPN. "We've had no setbacks so far. The goal is for him to play in week one. I don't know if that will happen."

Meanwhile, Griffin has denied claims that he has fallen out with Shanahan over his recovery schedule.
