Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III believes that he is still the leader of the team despite his injuries.
Griffin returned to action on Sunday after missing seven weeks with an ankle injury, and coach Jay Gruden conceded that the "jury is still out" on the quarterback position.
However, the 24-year-old is adamant that although he has to prove that he deserves to be on the field he is still the player for the job.
"I believe that I am [the franchise guy]. I believe that this organisation knows that I am. Those guys in the locker room believe that I am," Griffin III told reporters.
"There's no doubt there. I don't ever step on the field trying to make a claim saying I'm the guy. It's not like that. This is my team, and I'm gonna lead it."
The Redskins are 3-6 for the season so far and although their playoff aspirations have faltered, Griffin is under pressure to hold off competition from both Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy.
