Joe Theismann has praised Robert Griffin III for giving the Washington Redskins a chance to make the NFL playoffs this season.
The Redskins lead the NFC East going in to their final game of the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys later today.
Theismann, who led the Redskins to a Super Bowl win in the 1982 season, told CSN Washington: "I think Robert Griffin III is one of the most phenomenal young men I've ever had the pleasure of being around. He was ready in every regard and this city had to have him.
"I think Griffin III comes into a situation where there is a pretty darn good team around him. Mike Shanahan now has the team he wants on the field and the additions that have been made could make us a very competitive football team.
"I really believe that the whole Heisman trophy run really got him ready for the questions and the press conferences and the media and everything that has to do with success in the National Football League."
In his first season in the league, RG3 has broken the rushing record for a rookie quarterback, scored six rushing touchdowns and made the Pro Bowl roster.
