Team England's Nigel Levine has apologised to the crowd after he failed to automatically qualify for the men's 400m semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this morning.
With a time of 46.35s, Levine still managed to progress as the fastest loser, but speaking to Sports Mole after his heat, the 25-year-old expressed his disappointment at not having made his position secure.
"It was quite emotional [and] not the race I really wanted," he said. "I was quite nervous, and I think the nerves got ahead of me in this one. The outcome was finishing fourth [in my heat].
"Unfortunately I disappointed [the crowd] finishing fourth in my first round, so I'm quite sorry about that."
Levine vowed to improve his performance in the next round, however, adding: "[I will] go harder [and] put myself into a better position coming into the top bend."
The semi-finals of the men's 400m take place from 8.05pm on Tuesday night in Glasgow.
