Laura Muir, Laura Weightman fail to medal in women's 1500m final

Great Britain's Laura Muir and Laura Weightman fail to secure a medal in the women's 1500m final at the Olympic Games.

Great Britain's Laura Muir and Laura Weightman have missed out on a medal in the women's 1500m final at the Olympic Games.

Muir was considered to have a chance of claiming a place on the podium and with 500 metres to go, she backed herself to win gold as she went with Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon and Genzebe Dibaba.

However, she began to fade down the back straight and as Kipyegon and Dibaba won gold and silver respectively, Muir was chased down and eventually finished in seventh place.

Despite doing well to make the final, Weightman never featured among the leaders and she would end the race in 11th position.

The bronze medal went to USA's Jennifer Simpson.
