Japan 'bid to host 2019 World Badminton Champs as test event for Olympics'

Japan reportedly bid to host the 2019 World Badminton Championships as a test event for the Olympic Games the following year.

Japan have reportedly launched a bid to host the 2019 World Badminton Championships as a test event for the Olympic Games in Tokyo the following year.

It is believed that the nation are keen to continue the precedent set when London hosted the tournament prior to the Olympics in 2012.

According to Kyodo News, the Nippon Badminton Association has contacted the Badminton World Federation to confirm its interest in hosting the Championships.

For the 2020 Olympics, the BWF agreed earlier this year to move the badminton venue from central Tokyo to Musashino on the outskirts of the city as a cost-cutting measure.

Japan have never hosted the Championships before.
