Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose suffers orbital fracture during practice

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose suffers an orbital fracture during the first practice session of training camp, which requires surgery to repair.

The Chicago Bulls have confirmed that point guard Derrick Rose has sustained an orbital fracture near his left eye.

The 26-year-old has been plagued with injuries over the past few seasons, which have included a torn ACL and a meniscectomy last season which ruled him out of 31 matches during the campaign.

Rose has now been ruled out for an extended period after suffering the orbital fracture when he was elbowed in the face in the first practice of training camp.

The point guard will require surgery on the problem, but the Bulls have refused to confirm how long the former MVP will be absent from the court.

Rose has averaged 20.6 points per game in his six-year career in the NBA.
