Cleveland Cavaliers acquire Timofey Mozgov from Denver Nuggets

The Cleveland Cavaliers agree to send two protected Draft picks to the Denver Nuggets for center Timofey Mozgov.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have secured a deal to acquire center Timofey Mozgov from the Denver Nuggets.

Mozgov has been targeted by the Cavaliers for a number of months, and their need for a center before the trade line became even stronger when Anderson Varejao was ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles.

In order to secure the services of the Russian, Cleveland have been forced to send two protected first-round Draft picks to the Nuggets, who were keen to clear money of their wage bill and will also pick up a $4.6m (£3.6m) trade exception from the Cavaliers.

Cleveland have parted with a future pick they own from the Memphis Grizzlies from a 2013 trade, and a first-round selection they acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier this week in a deal which saw Dion Waiters depart to make space for New York Knicks duo JR Smith and Iman Shumpert.

Mozgov, who is averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game this season, worked with Cleveland head coach David Blatt to win an Olympic bronze medal with the Russian team in 2012.

Cleveland suffered a third successive defeat by losing 105-93 to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.
