Indiana Pacers star Chris Copeland has revealed that he regrets staying out late after he was stabbed in New York on Wednesday morning.
Copeland is in a stable condition in hospital after undergoing surgery, having suffered knife wounds to his elbow and abdomen with the blade touching his diaphragm.
"I just want to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers. I'm overwhelmed with the outpouring of support. I look forward to coming back stronger than ever. Thank you," he said in a statement given to ESPN.
The man who attacked Copeland was arrested, as were Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha of the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks duo were also charged for trying to prevent police from setting up a crime scene after the stabbing, with reports claiming that Sefolosha suffered a leg injury in the incident.
