Ed Davis fined for "unnecessary contact"

Ed Davis is fined by the NBA for "unnecessary contact" during a pre-season game against the Houston Rockets.

The NBA confirmed on Monday that Ed Davis has been fined $15,000 (£9,300) for "unnecessary contact" during a pre-season game against the Houston Rockets.

Davis, who played 44 times for the Memphis Grizzlies last season, received the fine as punishment for a foul on Donetas Montiejunas in the fourth quarter of the October 25 fixture.

The 24-year-old was ejected from the game due to the incident, which was considered to be a flagrant 2 foul by the officials.

Recent reports have suggested that the NBA are eager to punish unnecessary physicality this season.
