Swiss teens "didn't expect" beach volleyball gold in Baku

Switzerland's Nicole Eiholzer and Nina Betschart insist that they "didn't expect" to win gold in the beach volleyball this evening.

Switzerland's Nicole Eiholzer and Nina Betschart were overcome with emotion after claiming gold in the beach volleyball at the European Games this evening.

The Swiss duo beat Austria's Lena Maria Plesiutschnig and Katharina Schutzenhofer 21-16 14-21 15-13 at the Beach Arena in Baku.

"I don't know how to explain this feeling. I'm just happy. It's amazing. We prepared the whole year. We had a lot of fans from Switzerland. I hope I will never lose the fun in the sport," 19-year-old Eiholzer told reporters.

"It's unbelievable. Didn't expect it. We were behind them all the time," added Betschart, also 19.

The pair helped Switzerland claim their seventh gold medal of the Games, leaving them fifth in the current standings.
