Joe Root targets MCG improvement

Joe Root wants England to bounce back from Ashes defeat with a win at the MCG.

England batsman Joe Root has insisted that he and his teammates will come out fighting at the MCG in order to regain some respectability in the Ashes series.

Victory in Perth saw Australia claim back the little urn after just the third Test, but England's Root is motivated for the series not to be a whitewash.

"There is a lot of disappointment flying around as you would expect," Root told Sky Sports News. "We are a proud side. But we've got a great opportunity this week in Melbourne to make sure we put it right and come out fighting.

"I don't think getting up for any of the games will be a challenge. I think on Boxing Day especially, with the history around it and the venue and amount of people there. It will be a fantasatic occasion and we will definitely be up for it first morning for sure."

England's had previously held The Ashes since 2009.
