England are in control of the second Test in Wellington at tea after bowling New Zealand out for just 254 in the afternoon session of day three.

Resuming after lunch on 169-5, the Kiwis resistance in the form of Brendon McCullum and BJ Watling was broken by Steven Finn, who had the skipper caught at slip for 69 after adding just 20 runs to the total.

Tim Southee soon followed McCullum back to pavilion falling to Finn for just three, leaving the hosts drastically short of the follow-on target.

Stuart Broad then took over for England grabbing the crucial wicket of Watling for 60, and the wickets of Neil Wagner and Trent Boult quickly followed as he claimed figures of 6-51.

New Zealand failed to reach the follow-on target, falling 12 runs short. England captain Alastair Cook has enforced the follow-on and the Kiwis will bat again after tea.
