Matt Prior happy with Trevor Bayliss appointment

Matt Prior believes that England have made the right decision by appointing Trevor Bayliss as their new coach.

Matt Prior has claimed that Trevor Bayliss is the perfect candidate to take England forward after being named the team's new head coach.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that Bayliss would succeed Peter Moores, who was recently sacked after a disappointing World Cup and Test series in the West Indies.

Prior believes that the Australian's approach should boost the squad as they prepare for this summer's Ashes series.

"He's quite an old school coach which I think will suit this England dressing room very well," he told reporters.

"You've got a lot of talent in there, a lot of natural ability that needs to be allowed to go and play.

"I think if you get someone who is too fancy or too sophisticated then it can sometimes stop that from coming out so I think that will suit the team."

Assistant coach Paul Farbrace will remain in charge for the second Test against New Zealand, which begins at Headingley on Friday.
