Michael Vaughan has claimed that it is "ridiculous" to question Andrew Strauss's position as England captain.
However, the former England batsman does admit that Strauss requires a big score soon if he is to silence his critics.
Vaughan told ESPN: "As a captain, it's ridiculous to talk about Strauss's position.
"You only get better as a captain, tactically and management-wise. I'd be a better captain now than I was when I retired.
"But there's no question that, in the series against the West Indies, he needs a big score or that problem will get bigger. You can't keep going on as an opening batsman - even if the side are winning."
Strauss has only managed one century in his previous 50 innings for England.
