England set target of 293

Kumar Sangakkara hits 112 after being dropped early in his innings as Sri Lanka set England a target of 293 for victory in the sixth one-day international.

England have been set a target of 293 to win their sixth one-day international against Sri Lanka after the hosts posted a total of 292-7 in their innings this morning.

The tourists made a breakthrough early in the innings as Chris Woakes dismissed Mahela Jayawardene in the fourth over for just five runs.

Alastair Cook had a chance to catch Kumar Sangakkara at 41, but the captain dropped his counterpart, leaving the Sri Lanka skipper to reach 112.

Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan piled the runs on for the second wicket before Ravi Bopara caught the latter for 68, while Seekkuge Prasanna followed just a few overs later.

Moeen Ali eventually dismissed Sangakkara with just five overs still to play, but the hosts had already run up 243 runs at that point.

Thisara Perera and Dinesh Chandimal both fell late on, but Sri Lanka kept their run rate up in the final few overs to leave England facing a big run chase to avoid a series defeat.

Woakes, Steven Finn and Chris Jordan all picked up two wickets, while James Tredwell had one.
