The Scots' Pool A opener got off to a disappointing start as Kyle Coetzer (1), Calum MacLeod (0), and Hamish Gardiner (0) recorded just one run between them, with Trent Boult grabbing two wickets.
Machan's introduction appeared to steady the ship somewhat as the left-hander registered 56 before being removed by Corey Anderson - his first of three wickets.
Anderson continued to foil Scotland's resurgence by dismissing Berrington (50) and Matthew Cross (14) later on.
Daniel Vettori also managed to finish with three wickets after removing Robert Taylor (4), Majid Haq (0), and Iain Wardlaw (0) to ensure a miserable end to Scotland's innings.
