Hobart Hurricanes defeat Sydney Sixers by seven wickets in the Big Bash League.

Owais Shah struck two boundaries in the final over to earn Hobart Hurricanes a seven-wicket victory over Sydney Sixers.

After they were given a target of 155, Hobart remained ahead of the run-rate throughout the majority of their innings before Sydney hit back to leave the Hurricanes requiring nine runs from the final over.

Shah had previously struggled to get the ball to the boundary but he struck two fours in the final two balls of the innings to seal victory for his side, with Ricky Ponting finishing unbeaten on 63.

Michael Lumb and Brad Haddin got the Sixers off to a superb start as they combined to hit 57 runs off the opening six overs.

However, both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession and only a run-a-ball 34 from Steven Smith made a noteworthy impact as Sydney scored 154-8 off their allotted overs.

Hobart lost Tim Paine early on in their reply, but Aiden Blizzard and Ricky Ponting put on a 84-run partnership before Blizzard was bowled by Luke Feldman.

The wicket of Blizzard saw Travis Birt introduced to the fray and his quick-fire 18 runs from 16 balls ensured that Hobart remained in the ascendency.

Ponting remained at the crease to bring up his 50 but the boundaries had dried up to leave Hobart requiring nine runs off the final over.

The match remained in the balance with three balls remaining, but two successive boundaries from Shah sealed victory for Hobart.
