South Africa are 265 runs behind Sri Lanka at tea on the fifth day of the second Test in Columbo.
Rain forced the umpires to call an early lunch, with South Africa on 55-2 at the time. The Proteas frustrated their hosts during the afternoon, adding just 49 runs to that total as they look to secure a draw.
They resumed the afternoon session with Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock at the crease, but the latter fell for 37 when he edged Rangana Herath's delivery to Kithuruwan Vithanage.
AB de Villiers provided a stern defence alongside Amla, scoring 12 off 67 deliveries until he was bowled by Herath.
Faf du Plessis (6*) and Amla (24*) will resume the evening session at the crease, with South Africa on 104-4.
