Kumar Sangakkara double century gives Sri Lanka lead

Kumar Sangakkara hits 221 runs to leave Sri Lanka 78 runs ahead at the close of play on day four of the first Test against Pakistan.

Kumar Sangakkara has led Sri Lanka to a 78-run lead over Pakistan at the end of day four of their first Test in Galle.

With time lost because of the weather earlier this week, the hosts continued their first innings this morning, with Sangakkara (221) piling on the runs on his way to a double century.

Angelo Mathews came up just short of the ton with 91 as Saeed Ajmal claimed a string of quick wickets to finish with 5-166 before Sri Lanka declared on 533-9.

The declaration left the tourists with a few overs to face before the close of play, but the openers were unable to make it to stumps unscathed as Khurram Manzoor (3) was caught, leaving Pakistan 4-1.
