Gareth Batty has admitted that it is both a "real privilege" and a "great honour" to captain Surrey this season.
The 37-year-old, who is in his second spell with the club, has taken over the role from Gary Wilson.
"It is a real privilege, a great honour, and it is very exciting. It is a new challenge for the group and for me personally. It is something I am relishing," he told the ECB's official website.
"The group are relishing this season and hopefully the aim is to set something up, not only for this year, but to build something for a very long time to come."
Surrey begin their County Championship campaign against Glamorgan on Sunday, April 19.
